When Western and Eastern cultures merge, stereotypes make true integration difficult. This is true not only in everyday life but also in fashion, which often represents gender roles. In the West, androgyny is seen as unusual, while in the East, despite more fluid gender traditions, there are still strong expectations of how men and women should behave and dress. When these cultures meet, stereotypes create barriers instead of breaking them down. Clothing and gender expression could be occasions to celebrate diversity and inclusion, but instead often become symbols of separation.
